No matter how hard-packed the earth, it still presents a better walking (& running) surface than asphalt or concrete. That's because of the "Lurkers" beneath earth for which artificial construction over land creates barriers. These Lurkers created the planet, once upon a time, into the shape of an orb and then descended beneath its surface. But they often touch and caress the creatures walking directly on the planet's earthen surface. They can't do so, however, when there is a constructed barricade between those creatures and the land. When, as you walk and run, you occasionally feel the earth give way beneath your feet, that's a Lurker(s) creating a temporal hollow so they can touch your feet. When you and a Lurker(s) touch, a door into Paradise momentarily opens; if you enter, you can spend years in Paradise that becomes a mere second when you return into your current world. When I discovered the Lurkers' presence in today's walk, it affirmed my initially inexplicable preference for walking on earth instead of asphalt even though asphalt is conveniently more flat as a surface. That's my discovery du jour... for a children's storyteller to take the tale further (nota bene: we are all children). You're welcome.
